Fmoc-D-Trp(Boc)-OH (CAS 163619-04-3), also known as Nα-Fmoc-N(in)-Boc-D-tryptophan, is a Fmoc-protected D-tryptophan with Boc protection on the indole NH. It belongs to the Fmoc-D-tryptophan Boc-indole class. The indole nitrogen protection (Boc) is very important in Fmoc-SPPS because it stops Fmoc-protected amino acid-OPfp esters and other reactive intermediates from alkylating the electron-rich indole ring. D-Trp is located at position 3 in Octreotide and various somatostatin analogues (Lanreotide includes D-Trp3), providing receptor selectivity and resistance to tryptophan-specific proteases. Oxidizing the indole ring to oxindole is one way that it could break down.
