4-Oxo-1,4-dihydroquinoline-3-carboxylic acid (CAS 13721-01-2) is a bicyclic aromatic lactam acid of the 4-quinolone chemical class. It is also known as quinoline-4-one-3-carboxylic acid or 4-oxo-quinoline-3-COOH. This compound is a key part of making many different drugs. Most importantly, it is the direct precursor to Ivacaftor. The 4-quinolone scaffold is also the chemical backbone for fluoroquinolone antibiotics like Ciprofloxacin and Moxifloxacin, which shows how useful it is in medicine. The carboxylic acid at C-3 and the lactam carbonyl at C-4 give the molecule a strong ability to form hydrogen bonds, which is important for the pharmacology of CFTR potentiators. As an Ivacaftor key intermediate, its incomplete consumption or carryover constitutes a process-related impurity requiring qualification under ICH Q3A.
As a pharmaceutical-grade synthetic intermediate and process impurity reference standard for CFTR potentiator and quinolone antibiotic API development, ApiSyn provides 4-Oxo-1,4-dihydroquinoline-3-carboxylic acid (CAS 13721-01-2).
